导赏:马勒是奥地利著名作曲家,也是指挥家,生活在世纪之末的马勒在自己的作品中常常对生命提出诘问,他的第二交响曲更是这样。《c小调第二交响曲“复活”》创作于1894年因为末乐章使用了德国诗人克洛普是托克的诗作《复活》,被命名为《复活交响曲》。作品于1895年3月4日由理查·施特劳斯执棒柏林爱乐乐团首演前三个乐章,而1895年12月3日,马勒指挥柏林爱乐乐团首演全曲。
作品的第一乐章提名为“送葬”,马勒说:“我把第一乐章称为《死者的葬礼》,如果你想要知道的话,那就是我的D大调交响曲(即第一交响曲)的主角,我把他带到墓地,我从一个更高的立足点出发,在一面纯净的镜子里看到他的一生。”是马勒以前创作的交响诗《葬礼》搬过来的,有着巨大的张力,如暴风骤雨震撼人心的力量,是一首悲惨世界和哀伤心灵的挽歌。第二乐章的对人生的美好回忆,作品以奥迪林民间音乐兰德勒舞曲为内容,音乐阳刚明朗,而第三乐章马勒再次运用了《少年魔角》中的《圣安东尼向鱼儿布道》的大段的旋律。马勒这样解释道:“当你从怀念的白日梦中醒来而必须回到浑浑噩噩的现实生活中时,那无穷无尽的运动,无休无止的日常活动,没有意义的喧嚣奔忙,可能会使你感到不寒而粟,仿佛你在注视着灯火通明的舞厅中旋风般起舞的人群——而且是在外面的黑暗中看着他们,离的那么远,因此听不到那里的音乐。这时,人生似乎是没有意义的,只是一个可怖的鬼域世界,对它,你将发出一声憎恶的喊声而退避三舍!”第四乐章是一首女中音的歌曲《原光》,歌词还是来自《少年魔角》中的一首诗,旋律是马勒创作中最优美的。这是马勒交响曲中第一个有人声歌唱的乐章,马勒这样说:“传来了单纯信仰的歌,我变得像神一样,也许我将回到神的身边。”最后一个乐章合唱是马勒心仪已久的事。他急于找到能够充分表达“永生救赎的辉煌境界”的合唱歌词,就像贝多芬在第九交响曲的终曲以席勒的《欢乐颂》来传达“四海皆兄弟”的理想境界那样。但翻遍了世界文学名著也没有找到合适的歌词,包括到《圣经》原文中去搜寻。著名指挥家杨松斯这样理解马勒的《第二交响曲》:“”他在向自己提出宏大问题的同时,听众们也受到了同样诘问。生命是什么?生活是为什么?未来是什么?我们死了以后去哪里?各种疑问接踵而来。然后,马勒笔锋一转,开始描摹人类心灵之种种。直到最后乐章,他才对第一乐章提出的诸担任这台音乐会独唱的两位歌唱家是朱慧玲和宋元明,宋元明是近几年崛起的女高音歌唱家,参与过国家大剧院许多歌剧的演出,作为从奥地利学成归来的女高音,她先后获得过第44届捷克“德沃夏克”国际声乐比赛和 第48届法国图卢兹国际声乐比赛的第一名,并在2007年和2008年两次参加萨尔茨堡音乐节,2008年曾在奥地利拉克森堡皇家音乐厅演出 《勃拉姆斯安魂曲》担任领唱,并与维也纳国家歌剧院合唱团合作。她还曾经与穆蒂、巴伦博伊姆和捷杰耶夫都有过成功的合作。两位歌唱家将在余隆的执棒下与中国爱乐乐团和上海歌剧院合唱团一起完成这一恢弘的“生命之歌”。伦兵(《北京青年报》记者)

旅奥女高音歌唱家。以特优双硕士毕业于维也纳国立音乐与表演艺术大学“歌剧与轻歌剧”及“艺术歌曲与清唱剧”,师从弗兰茨·卢卡索夫斯基教授,取得声歌系“优秀艺术家”表演专业最高学位。同时毕业于维也纳普莱纳音乐学院长笛专业。曾获第48届法国图卢兹国际声乐大赛第一名,奥地利第13届“塔利亚维尼”国际声乐比赛“最佳女高音”奖,捷克第44届“德沃夏克”国际声乐比赛第一名及“最佳歌唱家”双奖等六个国际比赛的奖项。在萨尔斯堡国际艺术节、维也纳美泉宫皇家歌剧院、金色大厅玻璃厅、奥地利格拉茨歌剧院、首尔及釜山艺术中心、捷克卡洛维瓦利歌剧院、华盛顿肯尼迪艺术中心、布宜诺斯艾利斯剧院、智利圣地亚哥剧院、北京国家大剧院、香港大会堂等剧院演出,与维也纳爱乐乐团及穆蒂、巴伦博伊姆和捷杰耶夫等著名指挥家合作过。出演了《唐·璜》、《费加罗的婚礼》、《蝙蝠》、《图兰朵》、《艺术家生涯》、《意大利女郎在阿尔及尔》、《骆驼祥子》、《威廉退尔》、《日出》、《这里的黎明静悄悄》、《游吟诗人》、《茶花女》、《唐帕斯夸莱》、《风流寡妇》等剧目。
宋元明被维也纳文化媒体称之为“是纯正的大抒情女高音, 声音统一有磁性,很具潜力的年轻歌唱家,她的演唱相当细致入微,在高声区有非常漂亮的弱音处理。她的声音可塑性极强,柔美而具有力量,能胜任抒情到花腔的歌剧角色。”
次女高音:朱慧玲
朱慧玲是当今不多的几位活跃在欧洲主流歌剧舞台的女中音歌唱家。她除了歌剧演出之外,还担任德国汉堡新生代艺术家基金会艺术总监、德国蒂门多夫歌剧比赛评委。
她在德国、奥地利、瑞士、芬兰等主流歌剧院演唱。
她演唱的剧目包括《卡门》(卡门)、《维特》(夏洛特)、《女人心》(朵拉贝拉)、《弄臣》(玛德莱纳)、《蓝胡子公爵》(皇后)、《莱茵的黄金》(Rheintochter)、《原野》(焦母)等以及德奥轻歌剧。
除了歌剧之外,她还擅长演唱艺术歌曲,曾在巴黎、柏林、斯图加特、汉堡、慕尼黑、米兰、博洛尼亚、苏黎世、伦敦、纽约、华盛顿、东京等地演唱过音乐会。2013年,她首次在中国演出歌剧:国家大剧院版《霍夫曼的故事》(朱丽叶塔),并在在上海交响乐团2012-2013音乐季的《弄臣》中饰演玛德莱纳。近年,她在国内的演出更加频繁,包括国家大剧院的歌剧《安德烈谢尼埃》、《汤豪塞》;上海交响乐团的歌剧《西班牙时光》以及与指挥家张艺、吕绍嘉合作的马勒《大地之歌》;中央歌剧院与指挥家杨洋合作成功首演比才歌剧《卡门》,等等。
中央歌剧院合唱团
中央歌剧院是直属于文化部的国家歌剧院。中央歌剧院合唱团是中央歌剧院的主要基本组成部门,同时也是现今全国编制最大,最具整体实力和影响力的职业合唱团,是目前中国歌剧舞台上和各种音乐会中最活跃和最受欢迎的合唱团之一,所到之处,无不受到广大听众和媒体的好评。
自建成之日起,该合唱团就一直活跃在中外歌剧和音乐会舞台上。除最擅长于歌剧演出外,该合唱团还经常演唱贝多芬、普罗科菲耶夫等很多各个历史时期的国外作品和国内作品,并经常举办各类歌剧作品合唱以及艺术作品合唱音乐会。
在歌剧创作方面,几十年里曾参与排练演出的中国歌剧,如《王贵与李香香》《刘胡兰》《草原之歌》《春雷》《望夫云》《阿依古丽》《南海长城》《护花神》《第一百个新娘》《马可·波罗》等,就受到了当时党和国家领导人的亲切接见与鼓励,同时也为中国观众排练介绍了多部外国著名歌剧,如《茶花女》《蝴蝶夫人》《货郎与小姐》《叶甫根尼·奥涅金》《费加罗的婚礼》《卡门》《艺术家的生涯》《小丑》《驯悍记》《弄臣》《图兰朵》《乡村骑士》《塞维利亚理发师》等,近几年中合唱团与时俱进,排练上演了《杜十娘》《霸王别姬》《热瓦普恋歌》《山林之梦》《辛亥风云》《鄞地九歌》《辛亥风云》《我的母亲叫太行》《红军不怕远征难》以及复排了歌剧《白毛女》受到了广大观众的热情称赞。2009年受邀参加了张艺谋执导的在国家体育场(鸟巢版)以及台湾演出的《图兰朵》,2010年以来出访叙利亚、土耳其、意大利、匈牙利、瑞士、韩国、泰国等地,所到之处均受到当地专家以及观众的极高评价,自2011年开始,歌剧院排练上演了难度极高的德国瓦格纳歌剧《唐豪塞》以及瓦格纳的代表作《指环》系列,合唱团在这几部歌剧中的出色演唱和表演为剧院在第一届中国歌剧节中获得多项大奖作出了极大贡献。以上部分剧目曾多次荣获文化部颁发的多个奖项。
中央歌剧院合唱团训练有素,音色纯净,极富表现力,并且通过多年的演出积累了大量歌剧和音乐会曲目。该合唱团中拥有占很大比例的国家一级演员和二级演员;所到之处均受到广泛欢迎;现今的合唱团拥有许多出色的年轻歌唱家,他们不断在各种国际重要声乐比赛中获得奖项,脱颖而出,显露才华,并日益活跃在中外歌剧和音乐会舞台上。

余隆是活跃于国际乐坛的最杰出的中国指挥家。现任中国爱乐乐团艺术总监和首席指挥、广州交响乐团音乐总监、上海交响乐团音乐总监和北京国际音乐节艺术总监、上海夏季音乐节艺术总监、香港管弦乐团首席客座指挥。
余隆是与世界顶尖级交响乐团合作最多的华人指挥家。他与世界各地众多知名交响乐团和歌剧院有着广泛合作,他指挥过的乐团有纽约爱乐乐团、芝加哥交响乐团、费城交响乐团、洛杉矶爱乐乐团、蒙特利尔交响乐团、华盛顿国家交响乐团、辛辛那提交响乐团、巴黎管弦乐团、班贝格交响乐团、汉堡国家歌剧院、柏林广播交响乐团、莱比锡广播交响乐团、慕尼黑爱乐乐团、NDR北德广播交响乐团、悉尼交响乐团、BBC交响乐团、多伦多交响乐团、香港管弦乐团、东京爱乐乐团和新加坡交响乐团等。
余隆1964年出生于上海的音乐世家,自幼随外祖父、著名作曲家丁善德教授学习音乐。后求学于上海音乐学院和德国柏林高等艺术大学。先后受教于中国音乐教育家黄晓同教授和德国歌剧指挥家鲁宾斯坦教授等名师。出色的音乐天赋、优越的教育背景及广博的社会资源为余隆的艺术生涯奠定了坚实基础,使得他能够迅速成长为一位成就卓著的指挥家和音乐活动家。
余隆的艺术生涯涵盖指挥和艺术管理领域。1992年自德国学成回国后,余隆担任中央歌剧院常任指挥。同年,他创办了首届北京新年音乐会,并连续三年担任指挥,开启国内演出新年音乐会之先河。1993年起,余隆连续五年为香港市政局指挥歌剧演出。1998年,余隆发起并创办了北京国际音乐节,担任艺术总监。在他的出色领导下,北京国际音乐节不仅成为中国和亚洲规模最大的音乐节,也跻身于全球知名度最高的音乐节之列。在过去若干年间,金秋时节的北京国际音乐节上呈现了由众多著名乐团如柏林爱乐乐团和纽约爱乐乐团演出的精彩音乐会以及柏林德意志歌剧院、威尼斯凤凰歌剧院和圣彼得堡马林斯基剧院等带来的歌剧盛典,如《尼伯龙根的指环》、《玫瑰骑士》、《唐豪瑟》、《茶花女》、《纳布科》、《璐璐》和《姆钦斯克县的麦克白夫人》。
2000年,余隆参与创建了中国爱乐乐团,并担任艺术总监和首席指挥。余隆期望通过与众多世界知名音乐家的合作,使中国爱乐乐团发展成一个全能型职业化乐团,不仅向全世界介绍优秀的中国交响乐作品,也使得中国音乐家对西方音乐各时期及各种风格作品的演奏达到全新水准,并且在不同音乐形式上均有建树。余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团举行了许多大型作品的中国首演。2002年10月,作为第五届北京国际音乐节开幕式音乐会,余隆指挥包括中国爱乐乐团在内的近千名中外音乐家演出了马勒的第八《千人》交响曲,完成了这部宏伟巨作的历史性中国首演。从那时起,余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团演奏了数百部古典音乐的文献作品,并被誉为中国诠释德奥作品的最权威的指挥家。
2001年9月,余隆率中国爱乐乐团在台湾地区举行了成功的巡回演出。2002年6月,余隆率中国爱乐乐团参加了波多黎各的卡萨尔斯音乐节,随后在圣何塞、洛杉矶等地进行了美国西海岸巡演。同年9月,余隆再次率中国爱乐乐团赴海外巡演,在日本东京、神户、大阪和韩国汉城演出,所到之处均深受欢迎,尤其是在东京三得利音乐厅的音乐会,赢得了包括日本皇室成员在内的两千余名日本听众的热烈喝采,取得了轰动性成功。2003年,余隆的一系列重要指挥活动包括与东京爱乐乐团合作并率该团在中国巡演。同年5月起,他在作为北京国际音乐节艺术总监与中国爱乐乐团艺术总监和首席指挥的同时兼任广州交响乐团音乐总监。9月,余隆率领中国爱乐乐团赴欧洲巡演,在著名的巴黎国家歌剧院、华沙国家大剧院和维也纳音乐之友协会金色大厅演出,获得巨大成功。11月至12月间,余隆与大提琴家米沙·麦斯基和广州交响乐团一道进行大规模巡演,在巴黎香榭丽舍剧院、卢森堡音乐学院音乐厅、荷兰阿姆斯特丹音乐厅、开罗歌剧院和亚历山大音乐厅演出。2005年2月至4月,余隆率领中国爱乐乐团进行了规模空前的环球世界巡演,历时四十多天,跨越北美和欧洲,不仅在中国乐团出访史上前所未有,在全亚洲交响乐团中亦属罕见。2008年5月7日,余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团和上海歌剧院合唱团在梵蒂冈城保罗六世礼堂为教宗本笃十六世及八千余名听众演出了莫扎特的《安魂曲》,成为令全世界瞩目的重要文化盛事。英国《卫报》称此次意义非凡的演出为“中梵借音乐外交‘破冰’”。2009年11月,余隆率领上海交响乐团在纽约、洛杉矶、多伦多、圣地亚哥等北美12座城市进行了极为成功的巡演,《纽约时报》在2009年11月9日刊载专文介绍余隆的艺术成就,将余隆誉为“中国的赫伯特·冯·卡拉扬”。2010年3月,余隆率上海交响乐团赴波兰参加第十四届贝多芬音乐节,并在华沙和罗兹两座城市演出,受到各界高度评价。2011年,余隆再次率中国爱乐乐团巡访美国西海岸十数个城市。2012年中国春节期间,余隆指挥纽约爱乐乐团在纽约林肯中心的菲舍尔音乐厅举行了首次中国新年音乐会,使得他的指挥艺术再一次在美国享受盛誉。
2014年7月,余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团在英国逍遥音乐节演出,演出受到了英国各界的极大好评,获得了轰动性的效应。
2016年11-12月,余隆指挥了中国爱乐乐团美洲巡演中全部9场音乐会,其中包括了广受媒体赞誉的旧金山音乐会与洛杉矶音乐会,乐团在纽约大卫·盖芬音乐厅全场售罄的首演,以及在古巴的两场历史性音乐会。
2017年8月,余隆与上海交响乐团赴欧洲巡演,先后亮相瑞士琉森音乐节,奥地利蒂罗尔节日剧院夏日音乐节、格拉芬内格音乐节以及德国汉堡易北爱乐音乐厅。四地均为中国乐团首次受邀出访。
余隆作为指挥家以及交响乐团和音乐节的领导者多年来始终大力倡导当代音乐,他领导下的北京国际音乐节、中国爱乐乐团和广州交响乐团等机构和团体向当今最重要的作曲家委约创作,包括克里斯托夫·潘德列茨基、约翰·威廉姆斯、菲利普·格拉斯、霍华德·肖、郭文景、谭盾、叶小纲、赵季平、赵麟和陈银淑等,并由马友友、朗朗、朱利安·劳埃德-韦伯等当今最优秀的演奏家与中国爱乐乐团担任首演。在2011年,由余隆担任艺术总监的北京国际音乐节与波士顿歌剧院向作曲家周龙共同委约的歌剧《白蛇传》获得了普利策奖。
余隆指挥的录音包括德意志唱片公司录制发行、中国爱乐乐团演奏的勃拉姆斯G小调钢琴四重奏(阿诺德·勋伯格配器)和瓦格纳的《唐豪瑟》序曲、中国管弦乐作品集以及由郎朗担任钢琴独奏的钢琴协奏曲《黄河》。拿索斯公司发行有余隆指挥科恩格尔德的小提琴协奏曲和丁善德的《长征交响曲》。2012年,余隆主持的中国爱乐乐团100张CD和10张LP唱片的发行更开创了中国乐团录制鸿篇巨制的先河。2014年夏,余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团拍摄了交响乐艺术电影小提琴协奏曲《梁山伯与祝英台》,成为我国第一部该类型的艺术电影。2015年夏,余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团拍摄了交响乐艺术电影《黄河》。
作为一位优秀的音乐家和知名人士,余隆亦把培养年轻音乐家和社会教育工作作为己任,每年他都会发掘和培养一批年轻音乐家与他领导的乐团合作,使年轻音乐家能够在最受瞩目的音乐平台上崭露头角。2007年余隆创办了广东国际音乐夏令营,2012年上海交响乐团与纽约爱乐乐团联合创办的乐队学院令众多的年轻音乐家心向往之。
由于把全能艺术家作为追求目标,余隆除却在中国爱乐乐团和北京国际音乐节出品的许多歌剧中担任指挥之外还亲自担任导演,尤其是2004年他导演并执棒中国爱乐乐团演出的歌剧《卡门》,以及2010年雷哈尔的轻歌剧《风流寡妇》均引起了空前的轰动。
鉴于余隆在推动当今世界古典音乐事业发展和促进国际间文化交流方面所做的突出贡献,2002年,德国万宝龙文化基金会向余隆颁发了年度“万宝龙卓越艺术成就奖”;2003年,法国政府特别授予余隆“法兰西文学艺术骑士勋章”;2005年,意大利政府向余隆颁发了“共和国骑士勋章”。2010年11月,中央音乐学院在其庆祝建院70周年大会上授予他中央音乐学院荣誉院士称号,以表彰他近十年来对中国音乐的发展和对外文化交流作出的杰出贡献。这是国内艺术大学首次颁发“荣誉院士”称号,余隆成为我国艺术家中获此殊荣的第一人。当年12月15日又被授予“2010年年度中国文化人物”大奖。
2013年,余隆获颁国家级学术机构主办的最高艺术大奖“中华艺文奖”。
2014年,法国政府授予余隆“法国荣誉军团骑士勋章”。
2015年,余隆获颁“全国中青年德艺双馨文艺工作者”称号,同年荣获由美国大西洋理事会颁发的“全球公民”奖,以及由耶鲁大学音乐学院颁发的“桑福德奖章”。
2016年4月,余隆当选美国艺术与科学学院外籍荣誉院士。
2016年6月,余隆获得由德国联邦政府颁发的德国联邦十字勋章。
余隆现任第十一、十二届全国政协委员,并担任中国音乐家协会副主席职务。

Yuanming Song obtained Graduate Artist Diploma and Double Master’s Degree in "Opera and Light Opera" and "Art Songs and Cantata" at University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under the tutelage of Professor Franz Lukasovsky.
She has won several awards including the first prize at the 48th Concours International de Chant de La Ville de Toulouse; the first prize and the award of "Best Singer" at the 44th Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition in Czech Republic.
She has performed at Schlosstheater Schönbrunn, Grazer Opera House, Karlovy Vary Opera House, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Buenos Aires Teatro, Santiago Teatro in Chile, Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts, Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall and Salzburger Festspiele, and has worked with Wiener Philharmoniker as well as renowned conductors including Riccardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim and Valery Gergiev. She has starred operas including Don Giovanni, La Bohème, Turandot, L’italiana in Algeri, Die Fledermaus, Guglielmo Tell, Le nozze di Figaro, Don Pasquale, Die Lustige Witwe, La Traviata and Il Trovatore.
Zhu Huiling, mezzo-soprano
The young Chinese mezzo-soprano was born in Shanghai. After the graduating from the Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music by Prof. Bian Jingzu, she started her vocal study in Europe. She studied at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg by Prof. Ingrid Kremling and there she made her bachelor and master degree of Lieder-Oratorio and opera with a first outstanding award. 2011 she received her doctor degree of opera performing and singing at the Hochschule für Musik Stuttgart by Prof. Dunja Vejzovic. During her study, Ms. Zhu has visited numerous of singing masterclasses, such as by Madame Zhou Xiaoyan, Ileana Cotrubas, Wen Kezheng, Mirella Freni and Francisco Araiza etc., and also the masterclasses organized by the Metropolitan Opera and La Scala.
She is a winner of Elisa-Meyer Vocal Competition and Timmendorfer Strand Music Festival Singing Competition in Germany, Nagasaki Music Competition in Japan.
Her opera repertoire includes "Carmen" (Carmen), "Werther" (Charlotte), "Cosi fan tutte" (Dorabella) "Rigoletto" (Maddalena), "Rheingold" (Rheintochter) ,"Wilderness" (Jiao's Mother), as well as some German and Austrian operettas.
Besides opera, Ms. Zhu is also a outstanding concert singer. She gives her Lieder recital in Germany, Japan, Belgium, Switzerland, UK and the USA.
She made her opera debut in China in 2013, as Giulietta in Les Contes d'Hoffmann produced by NCPA Beijing. She appeared in 2012-2013 season of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, singing Maddalena in Rigoletto. In 2014-2015 season, she was soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 with NCPA Orchestra, and collaborated with Maestro Zhang Yi and The National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde conducted by Zhang Yi. In May, she sang Bersi in Andrea Chenier in a NCPA production. In April 2017, she made triumph debut of Carmen with Yang Yang and China National Opera.
Since 2008, Ms. Huiling Zhu is the artistic director of the charitable foundation Stiftung Chinesische Nachwuchskünstler e. V. Hamburg (Germany).
Long Yu, Conductor
As one of the most distinguished Chinese conductors with an established international reputation, Maestro Long Yu is currently Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Music Director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival and Music in the Summer Air, MISA, as well as Principle Guest Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
Long Yu is one of the conductors who conducts the world top-class orchestras most frequently, he has appeared with a prestigious list of leading orchestras and a lot of opera companies around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Montreal Symphony OrchestraWashington National Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg State Opera, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Leipzig, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
Long Yu was born in 1964 into a family of musicians in Shanghai. Musical education in his early childhood came from his grandfather Ding Shande, a composer of great renown, and he later studied at the Shanghai Conservatory with Professor Xiaotong Huang and then studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin with Prof. Robinstein. Outstanding music talents, excellent educational background and extensive social resources make Long Yu a preeminent conductor.
Long Yu's career has included both artistic and administrative appointments. In 1992, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Central Opera Theatre in Beijing, and in the same year, he was involved in the planning of the first Beijing New Year's Concert and served as its conductor for three consecutive years. He also produced operas for The Urban Council of Hong Kong for five successive years. In 1998, he led the creation of the Beijing Music Festival and was its Founding Artistic Director. Under his leadership the Beijing Music Festival is regarded as the largest classical music festival in the eastern hemisphere and one of the world’s most important music festivals. During the past 18 years at this annual autumn festival there have been many splendid concerts given by leading orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic, as well as outstanding productions of the Ring, Der Rosenkavalier, Tannhäuser, La Traviata, Nabucco, Lulu and Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District by visiting opera companies including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Teatro la Fenice and the Mariinsky Theatre.
In 2000, Long Yu co-founded the China Philharmonic Orchestra and was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Conductor. Now entering his 9th season with the China Philharmonic, he has maintained the high standard of orchestral performance and artistic administration and built the ensemble’s reputation as not only a leading Chinese orchestra but also a world-famous one. From February to April 2005, he led the China Philharmonic Orchestra on an international tour. Within 40 days they appeared in 22 cities throughout North America and Europe. In 2008, for the first time in history, the China Philharmonic Orchestra performed under the baton of maestro Long Yu at the Vatican in the Paul VI Auditorium. The concert was attended by The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI and marked a giant step in bringing eastern and western cultures closer together. In April 2009 the China Philharmonic Orchestra was selected by the Gramophone, which is widely regarded as the best classical music magazine in the world, as one of "the world's 10 most inspiring orchestras". In November 2009 Long Yu led the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra on a twelve-city North American tour which is a huge success. The tour began with the closing concert of the Ancient Paths, Modern Voices Festival at Carnegie Hall and included concerts in Los Angeles, Toronto and San Diego. A New York Times report from November 9, 2009 introduced Long Yu's artistic achievement and hailed him as "China's Herbert von Karajan." In March 2010 Long Yu conducted the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra at the 14th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Krakow and gave concerts in Warsaw and Lodz. All the performances won high praise from both audiences and critics. In 2011, Long Yu toured extensively with the China Philharmonic Orchestra in 8 cities in west coast of United States. In Chinese spring festival of 2012, Long Yu led the New York Philharmonic in the First Chinese New Year Concert at Avery Fisher Hall of Lincoln Center.
In July 2014, Long Yu conducted the China Philharmonic Orchestra in the BBC Proms as the first orchestra from China to play in a world class music festival and the concert was highly praised by media and audience.
In August 2017, Long Yu conducted Shanghai Symphony Orchestra’s Tour of Europe for consecutive performances at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, Tiroler Festspiele and Grafenegg Festival in Austria as well as Hamburg Elbephilharmonie in Germany, making debut performances as a Chinese orchestra in all four locations.
Mr. Long Yu's recordings include, on Deutsche Grammophon with the China Philharmonic, Brahms's Piano Quartet in G Minor (orch. Arnold Schoenberg) and Wagner's Tannhäuser Overture, highlights of Chinese symphonic music and Yellow River Concerto with Lang Lang as featured soloist. Recordings on Naxos include Korngold's Violin Concerto and Ding Shande's Long March Symphony. In 2012 Long Yu lead the release of CPO Live a 100-CD box set of the live performances in the past music seasons of China Philharmonic Orchestra, as a milestone of both the development of Chinese symphony orchestras and the recording industry in China. In the summer of 2014 Long Yu conducted the CPO in a symphony film of the Chinese violin concerto The Butterfly Lovers as the first art film of classical music in China. In 2015 Long Yu conducted the CPO in another film The Yellow River.
Long Yu received the 2002 Montblanc Arts Patronage Award from the Montblanc Cultural Foundation, and in 2003 came Le grade de chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres (The Honor of Chevalier of French Art and Culture) from the Government of France. In 2005, Italian President honored Maestro Long Yu L'onorificenza di commendatore.
In November 2010, the Central Conservatory of Music has presented Maestro Long Yu with a certificate of the Honourable Academician from the Central Conservatory at a conference for 70th year anniversary of its founding, in recognition of his great contribution and devoted efforts to the development in classical music in China and cultural exchanges over the past decade. On December 2010, he was awarded People of the Year in Arts Field in China.
In 2013, Long Yu was awarded the national level arts award “China Arts Award”.
In 2014, Long Yu received the France Knight of Legion of Honour.
In 2015, Long Yu was named “Morally and Artistically Excellent Artist” by state authority. He was also awarded “Global Citizen Award” by the Atlantic Council, and the Sanford Medal by Yale University’s College of Music in 2015.
In April, 2016, Long Yu was elected as a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In June, 2016, Long Yu received German’s Federal Cross of Merit.
Long Yu is currently Vice-president of Chinese Musicians Association, member of the 11th and 12th the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Thanks to persistent effort of generations of artists in more than half a century, the Opera House has debut, staged and preserved a rich repertoire of word famous operas, including La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Giani Schicchi, Turandot, Aida, La Boheme, Rigoletto, Le Nozze di Figaro, Othello, Cavalleria Rusticana, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, I Pagliacci, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Roi d’Yis, etc.The Opera House has also accumulated a repertoire of Chinese operas, including LiuHulan,Song of the Grassland,Ayiguli, The 100th Bride, Marco Polo, Du Shiniang, Farewell My Concubine, etc. In 1988, at the invitation of Savonlinna Opera Festival, China National Opera House visited Finland and staged performances of Madama Butterfly, Carmen,Requiem of Verdi and some Chinese musical pieces, which received tides of praise from the media.
